Winchester Crime of the Week – March 8, 2010
Date of Crime: February 9, 2010
Location: 115 N Cameron St
Type of Crime: Armed Robbery
On the evening of February 9, 2010 a couple had finished eating dinner on the Loudoun Street Mall and were walking in an alley to get to their car. They were approached by two men. One displayed a handgun and demanded money.
The woman gave the robbers $3 and the suspects were last seen running toward the mall. No one was injured.
The suspects were described as:
Suspect 1: black male, 5’10” tall, thin build, wearing a heavy navy blue coat, gray facial hair, possibly missing a tooth
Suspect 2: black male, 6’4”, 220 lbs, wearing a large black coat, younger than the other suspect

Frederick County Crime of the Week - March 1, 2010
The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of Margaret Marie Landis, white female, age 62, of 1255 North Timber Ridge Road. On February 16, 2010, Deputies responded to the Cross Junction address for a deceased person. Her son reported he had found her deceased in her residence. There were no signs of forced entry. This case is being investigated as a homicide.

Type of Crime: Animal Neglect
On February 18, 2010 a tan Cocker Spaniel (neutered male) was found in the area of the 600 block of Virginia Avenue. The dog had badly matted fur and extremely long nails. If you know the owner or the address where this dog lived, please call Crime Solvers.

Frederick County Crime of the Week February 16,2010
The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office is investigating two motor vehicle thefts on February 4, 2010. The first involved a Ford F-250 pickup, white in color, with a yellow Fisher plow and salt spreader from Blue Ridge Landscape and Design, located at 172 #2 Imboden Drive. The truck has a Blue Ridge Landscape and Design logo in blue lettering on both doors. The second vehicle theft was reported by Shade Equipment Company, located at 1237 Martinsburg Pike. The vehicle is described as a 2000 Dodge Ram pickup truck, white in color, with Shade Equipment Company written in black lettering on both doors, and an operational stainless steel salt spreader.

Winchester Crime of the Week – February 8, 2010
Date of Crime: November 6, 2009
Location: Walgreens, Apple Blossom Mall
Type of Crime: Flim Flam Fraud
Walgreens and several stores at the Apple Blossom Mall were victims of a flim flam fraud. Cashiers advised that the suspect offered a $100 bill for a small purchase and after the cashier entered that amount into the register, the suspect would then confuse her by offering different forms of payment and asking for change until he had more money than he originally gave.
There were at least 2 different suspects who were not seen in the same stores together and it is unknown how many others may be involved. The suspects remained on a cell phone during the purchases. The following are descriptions of two suspects. See also the pictures.
Suspect 1: black male, 30-40 years old, 5’10”-6’2”, 185 lbs, wearing a brown shirt and blue jeans
Suspect 2: black male, approximately 25-40 years old, 6’-6’2”, 200 lbs, wearing blue jeans and a gray sweater over a black shirt

Frederick County Crime of the Week – February 1, 2010
The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a burglary and grand larceny at The Smoke Shop, located 201 Center Drive, Suite 105. On January 23, 2010, a Frederick County Deputy located rolls of change lying near the intersection of Ivory Drive and Deer Hill Court. Patrol units checked the area for possible break-ins and located a broken window at The Smoke Shop. The owner was contacted and he reported approximately $800.00 in coins and currency was missing from the business.

On the evening of January 18, 2010 the business owner was approached by 2 males who demanded money. The suspects took the money and left the area on foot. They were described as:
Suspect 1: black male, approximately 20 years old, 5’10”, 165 lbs, wearing gray hooded sweatshirt, bandana across his face
Suspect 2: black male, approximately 20 years old, 5’8”, 165 lbs, wearing blue long sleeve shirt

Frederick County Crime of the Week - January 18, 2010 The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a burglary and grand larceny at 5990 Northwestern Pike between January 7 and 8, 2010.
The victim reported that when she arrived at the residence on January 8, she discovered that both the house and shed had been broken into and items removed, including: a DVD player, DVD rack and approximately 60 DVD’s, two Dell Inspiron laptop computers, two Dale Earnhart, Jr. NASCAR jackets, and three Dale Earnhart, Jr. flags. A large horizontal white freezer, a microwave, and miscellaneous tools were also reported missing.

Swastikas were painted in red and black paint on the building and in the parking lot of the Beth-el Congregation, located at 520 Fairmont Avenue sometime overnight December 11-12, 2009.

Frederick County Crime of the Week - January 4,2010
The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a grand larceny that occurred on December 30, 2009 at the CVS located t 1400 Tasker Road. The Assistant Manager reported that a slender black male wearing a puffy dark colored coat and a white female with blonde hair pulled back in a ponytail placed numerous packages of Prilosec into a gift bag and left the store. The two left the area in a black, newer model 2-door vehicle. Items removed were valued at more than $1200.00.
